THE COMPANY TODAY
ALGIECEL was founded in May 2021 to secure industrial CO2 neutrality by implementation of microalgae-based Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU).
We have recently finished the design, construction and installation of a pilot plant of our modular and easy-to-install PhotoBioReactor (PBR) solution at the Danish Technological Institute (DTI).
A skilled team with the necessary experience has been built. The company has received funding from the BioInnovation Institute (BII), and we participate in the Venture Lab program.
ALGIECEL has entered into supplier agreements with partners that hold key insights into areas such as LED light, biotech and plastic.
LOIs with potential clients and product end-users have been secured. A venue for the demo-scale project has been secured at a Novozymes facility.
THE PILOT PROJECT
In June 2022 ALGIECEL celebrated the opening of the mobile pilot plant at the Danish Technological Institute with more than 70 participants.
The day was dedicated to the green transition and sustainability with ALGIECEL´s development of a mobile container-based solution for the conversion of CO2 into biomass.
The pilot photobioreactor is now set up in cooperation with the DTI, which has secured access to laboratories, facilities and competencies within the microalgae cultivation area.
CEO Juan Farré from the DTI stated that “the opening marks the establishment by the DTI of an ecosystem giving start-up companies access to an integrated platform of testing and demonstration facilities within the space of future foods and the green transition”.
Earlier this year BII invested in ALGIECEL, and during the opening ceremony Jens Nielsen, the CEO of BII, kindly remarked: “I am impressed to see how rapidly ALGIECEL has advanced and is now initiating experiments at pilot scale. But speed is unfortunately important as we rapidly need new technologies like the ones ALGIECEL is providing to make sure that we can create a sustainable society. I congratulate them with their advancements, and I will be looking much forward to following them in the years to come”.
