The company has developed a plug & play photobioreactor that can be stacked and packed as it fits into standard shipping containers. The reactor is easily installable and requires little technical know-how from small and mid-size industrial clients.

Industrial client with CO2 problem invests in ALGIECEL service
Many decentralized industrial sites emit relatively small quantities of CO2 compared to e.g. cement production. Huge power-to-x projects require a lot of CO2 , space and capital. Smaller biogas and fermentation plants can invest in a highly compact, modular plug & play ALGIECEL microalgae photobioreactor (PBR), fitted into standard 40´ shipping containers to capture their CO2 emissions.
Installation of ALGIECEL photobioreactor
The mobile ALGIECEL PBR requires only a flat surface to be installed by ALGIECEL´s logistic partner, as they can be stacked and packed without much preparation needed from the client. Each PBR captures around 1 ton of CO2 per day. Any number of PBRs can be installed, equivalent to the client´s emissions, as the reactors are modular and operate independently. The client pays a fee to ALGIECEL for ongoing servicing and maintenance of the PBR.
Microalgae-based product produced / carbon captured
The PBR transforms CO2 emissions and LED light via photosynthesis into microalgae biomass. The CO2 is thus captured and the client avoids paying carbon penalties or taxation. The only waste streams left are oxygen and process heat which can be reused for e.g. heating up the manure at a biogas plant. The microalgae biomass cane be split up in an oil and a biomass fraction in the downstream processing unit.
Sale of derivative microalgae-based products
Microalgae-based products are highly-valuable commodities such as omega-3 oils, food-grade vitamins, carotenoids, protein and omega-3 rich biomass to be applied in animal compound feed, human food or cosmetic markets. ALGIECEL will facilitate off-take agreements for the microalgae-based products, as well as for surrounding logistics so that minimal effort is required from the client. The revenue stream is shared with the client.
ALGIECEL products replacing CO2 heavy alternatives
ALGIECEL´s microalgae-based products are replacing products with negative environmental impacts like fish oil or fishmeal. Microalgae are the only natural source of omega-3 apart from wild fish. ALGIECELC´s application can thus circumvent this industry and reduce the carbon footprint of feed and food supply chains. Based on this impact carbon credits will be issued and sold, the revenue will again be shared with the client.
Revenue sharing
To sum up: The client invests in a number of ALGIECEL PBRs equivalent to the site´s CO2 emissions. The emissions are captured and transformed into biomass and the client thus avoids paying penalties or CO2 taxation. The microalgae-based products are sold by ALGIECEL and the revenue is shared with the client. Carbon credits are issued and the revenue from the credit sales are again shared with the client.
